Le recyclage, mode de survie des plantes en cas de pénurie

Afin de s’assurer une place au soleil et de garantir leur croissance, les plantes ont développé différentes stratégies. Mais que se passe-t-il lorsque la densité végétale est telle que les ressources, notamment la lumière, viennent à manquer ? Les végétaux se mettent en mode survie et actionnent un mécanisme de recyclage: l’autophagie. Ce processus est au cœur d’une étude publiée le 10 octobre 2022 dans «Nature Communications» par l’équipe du Pr Christian Fankhauser au Centre intégratif de génomique de l’UNIL.

Adrestia Therapeutics — Gene networks to the rescue

Identifying synthetic rescue mutations in healthy people may provide new avenues for fighting disease

Decades of research on genetic mutations have had one overriding goal: to understand how specific mutations interfere with physiological processes and promote disease. Adrestia Therapeutics, a spin-out of the University of Cambridge in the UK, is taking a new tack. Rather than looking at how mutations cause illness, they are scouring the genome for mutations that keep people healthy despite a genetic predisposition to disease. The idea is that mutations that put an individual at high risk of developing a disease can be overridden by mutations elsewhere in the genome. This phenomenon, called ‘synthetic rescue’, holds out the tantalizing possibility of providing an entirely new strategy for discovering therapeutic targets and drugs. (…)

Nous ne sommes pas toujours à égalité face à la maladie. Une publication dans «Frontiers in immunology» par le groupe de Nicolas Fasel, au Département d’immunobiologie (anciennement Département de biochimie) de l’UNIL, montre que le contrôle de la réponse immunitaire diffère selon le sexe.
