Background: The group of Dr. Zoltán Kutalik (at the Department of Medical Genetics, University of
Lausanne) is developing methods tailored to address specific aspects of genome-wide association
studies. We are interested in studying the missing heritability phenomenon, gene-environment
interactions, molecular phenotype integration, phenotype evolution over time, allelic heterogeneity,
copy-number variant associations etc. Via longstanding collaborations we are fortunate to have access
to several large genome-wide association studies and exome sequencing data sets. We have an
extensive web of collaborations both in Switzerland (University Hospital (CHUV), Center for
Integrative Genomics (CIG), Vital-IT, UNIGE) and abroad (Imperial College London, University of
Regensburg, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, University of Milan, Queensland Institute of Medical
Research, etc.).
Prerequisites: We are interested in recruiting a talented individual with strong background in
statistics / mathematics / bioinformatics / physics / programming. The ideal candidate should have
– decent background in statistics
– good programming skills (R or Matlab languages preferred, C++ is a plus)
– having past experience with solving biological problems (especially experience with genomewide
association studies) with computational tools is an advantage
– good communication skills and excellent command of English (French is a plus)
Tasks: The candidate will be responsible for
– developing novel methodologies
– performing genome-wide association studies
– leading international meta-analysis efforts
– optionally participating in teaching
The group: The position is at the Department of Medical Genetics (DGM) of the University of
Lausanne, Switzerland. The department offers a stimulating, young and international environment
with state of the art laboratory and computer facilities. Communication is mostly in English.
