Jan 21 & Jan 22, 2014 EMBO Journal presentations

Dear All,

Ever wondered why one of your submitted manuscript was rejected? Want to learn more about the editorial decision process?

Thomas Schwarz-Romond, a senior editor of the EMBO Journal, will be in Lausanne on January 21st and 22nd.  The purpose of his visit will be to explain their efforts to have a transparent editorial process, outline the responsibilities of a Scientific Editor and explain the decision-making process on submitted manuscripts.
Moreover, he will also summarize EMBO’s activities, policies and interests and introduce EMBO press, a recently launched publishing platform for EMBO’s four journals (The EMBO Journal/EMBO reports/MSB/EMBO Molecular Medicine), which many of you will consider for publication.

In collaboration with Paolo Dotto from UNIL, we have set up a joint program for his visit in order to maximize interaction and facilitate attendance. He will be giving two presentations, one on Tuesday, January 21st, at 2pm at EPFL (room SV1717A) and another on Wednesday, January 22nd, at 10am in Epalinges (room B301, building B). These presentations will be followed by round table discussions.
This should be of wide general interest to faculty members, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students and you are cordially invited / encouraged to attend. If in addition you are interested in meeting / discussing with Dr. Schwarz-Romond individually, please contact Paolo (paolo.dotto@unil.ch) or myself to set up a schedule.

I would strongly encourage attendance and active participation of postdoctoral fellows and graduate students, as the topics to be discussed are of great importance for their future careers.

Best regards
Joerg Huelsken
