Applications are invited for one ERC funded postdoctoral position in the Alabert Lab to study the fundamentals of chromatin replication and cell identity. During lineage propagation, cells must duplicate their genetic and epigenetic information to maintain cell identity. The mechanisms underlying the duplication of epigenetic information in cycling cells remains largely unknown. Recently we have developed a new technology to analyze this process in vivo (see Alabert et al., NCB 2014 Mar;16(3):281-93 and Alabert et al., G&D 2015 Mar 15;29(6):585-90). We are seeking talented and highly motivated individuals to characterize the novel mechanisms of chromatin restoration and uncover their importance during lineage propagation. The project will involve a range of state-of-the-art techniques involving biochemistry, mass spectrometry, gene editing, microscopy and development of new technologies.
Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression (GRE)
The Centre for Gene Regulation and Expression, within the School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee, consists of 12 research groups studying different aspects of genome function. Within these labs over one hundred postdoctoral and postgraduate scientists work in a collaborative environment to address different aspects of genome biology and structure. A special strength of the centre is our co-operative effort to establish and maintain state of the art technologies used for studying gene regulation. These include high-end imaging, proteomics, genomics, structural biology, cell sorting and data analysis capabilities. The School of Life Sciences was ranked as the number 1 University Biological department in REF2014 and consistently ranks within the top 10 Institutes world-wide for citations per paper (QS World University Rankings). There are over 80 different research groups within the School of Life Sciences and this provides access to expertise and facilities across a full range of subjects within molecular and cellular life sciences. Candidate requirements
- PhD with outstanding academic track record and at least one first authored publication in an internationally recognized peer-reviewed journal.
- Previous experience in biochemistry and cell biology, especially relating to chromatin or DNA replication, would be beneficial.
- Capable of working in a team, but able to plan and work independently.
- Excellent communication skills and knowledge of the English language.
The positions are available for 3 years.
Appointment as a ERC funded postdoctoral Research Assistant on the Grade 7 Point 34 salary scale is dependent upon you having been awarded a PhD. Appointment will be considered if you are shortly expected to be awarded a PhD.
