A new faculty position at the Assistant Professor level is available in the Department of Biology, Institute of Biochemistry, at ETH. Application deadline: 31.10.2021.
The Department of Biology of ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position at the Institute of Biochemistry located at the ETH Zurich Hoenggerberg campus.
Applicants should have an excellent track record at the interfaces of biophysics and material science with cellular and molecular biology or related fields. The new Assistant Professor is expected to develop an interdisciplinary research program addressing topics in mesoscopic biophysics such as the assembly, organization, function and regulation of membrane-less organelles, probing and characterizing the material properties of super-molecular assemblies and bio-condensates in vivo and in vitro, as well as the role of low affinity molecular interactions in determining the emerging material properties of soft biomaterials and/or characterizing the super-molecular organization of biological materials from a structural perspective. Applicants using interdisciplinary approaches are specifically encouraged to apply. The selected candidate will be integrated in the ETH+ consortium “Bringing Materials to Life”, promoting interdisciplinary interactions between Biology, Material Science and Chemistry. The physical proximity of the Institute of Biochemistry to other institutes and departments located at the ETH Zurich Hoenggerberg campus will further facilitate such interactions. The candidate will be involved in teaching in her/his area of expertise at the undergraduate (German or English) and graduate (English) levels.
Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. The initial appointment is for four years with the possibility of renewal for a three-year period.
Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a statement of future research and teaching interests, the names of at least three references, and a description of the three most important achievements*. The letter of application should be addressed to the President of ETH Zurich, Prof. Dr. Joël Mesot. The closing date for applications is 31 October 2021.
