SYSTEMS BIOLOGY: TECHNOLOGY AND APPLICATIONS

The Centre for High-Throughput Biology at the University of British Columbia (www.chibi.ubc.ca) invites applications for a Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) position in the field of high-throughput biology. The focus of the chair will be to advance the science of high-throughput biology, either through technology development or through creative use of high-throughput approaches to biological questions. The following areas are of particular interest, to complement existing expertise:

Computational Biology

Genome-Wide Analyses

Synthetic and Chemical Biology

Technology Development

The position requires a Ph.D. degree, postdoctoral experience and an exceptional research track record. The successful candidate will develop and maintain a dynamic research program within the Centre for High-Throughput Biology (CHiBi). This group of eight faculty members (Leonard Foster and Thibault Mayor, proteomics; Joerg Gsponer, Irmtraud Meyer and Paul Pavlidis, computational biology; Carl Hansen and Martin Hirst, technology development and genomics; Steve Withers, chemical biology) is co-located at the centre of campus, adjacent to the Michael Smith Laboratories (www.msl.ubc.ca) with academic positions in relevant departments. The successful applicant will likewise hold a position in a relevant department in the Faculty of Science (http://science.ubc.ca) and be expected to supervise graduate students, collaborate with other faculty members, obtain external funding, effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses and actively participate in centre activities.

The successful candidate will be eligible to hold an appointment at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level but a higher rank may be considered for applicants with exceptional qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2015.
