SIB Awards 2015 – The call for applications is now open

The SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics is pleased to announce that the call for applications for the “SIB Awards 2015” is now open. With three award categories – the SIB International Young Bioinformatician Award, the SIB International Bioinformatics Resource Award and the SIB Best Swiss Bioinformatics Graduate Paper Award – our Institute is encouraging talented scientists throughout the world to apply. The SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics is happy to announce the SIB Awards 2015, which consist of three categories:

 

SIB International Young Bioinformatician Award 2015

This award recognizes the excellent and promising young career of a scientist, or a project he/she has carried out, or a paper he/she has published in the field of bioinformatics or computational biology.

The award carries a cash prize of CHF 10,000, an award certificate and travel expenses for the laureate to attend the 12th [BC]2 Conference in Basel, Switzerland.

The award is open worldwide to a young researcher (graduate student or having finished his/her PhD within the last six years preceding the closing date for applications), who has carried out outstanding research centred on bioinformatics or computational biology.

SIB International Bioinformatics Resource Award 2015

This award recognizes a bioinformatics resource (database, infrastructure, code-base, analysis framework, visualization tool, etc.) that is breaking new ground conceptually and/or technically.

The award carries a cash prize of CHF 10,000, an award certificate and travel expenses for one team member to attend the 12th [BC]2 Conference in Basel, Switzerland.

The award is open worldwide to any new bioinformatics resource or any very major new release of a resource that is available online and that has been formally published for the first time within five years preceding the closing date for applications. The resource should have an important impact on life science research, or show the clear potential to have such an impact.

SIB Best Swiss Bioinformatics Graduate Paper Award 2015

This award recognizes a paper in the field of bioinformatics or computational biology published by a scientist currently carrying out a PhD or having obtained his/her PhD degree within one year preceding the application deadline.

The award carries a cash prize of CHF 5,000, an award certificate and travel expenses for the laureate to attend the 12th[BC]2 Conference in Basel, Switzerland.

The applicant must have studied in Switzerland for at least six months during the PhD. The paper must have been published or accepted for publication at the application deadline. In the case the candidate is not the first author of the paper, he/she will need to detail in the application his/her personal contributions.
