Hello! My name is Guillem Murciano Julià and I am joining Aleksandar Vjestica’s lab as a postdoc.
I come from Vidreres (a small town in Catalunya next to Lloret de Mar). I obtained my Bachelor degree in Human Biology at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona. Afterwards I did a Master in Multidisciplinary Research at the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (UPF-BSIT) where I worked with embryonic kidney development using kidney organoids as a working model. Then, I went back to UPF to obtain my PhD, where I worked with Schizosaccharomyces pombe to study cell cycle and meiosis regulation under the supervision of Prof. José Ayté. There I studied the cell cycle regulation of the MBF complex (E2F in mammals), I developed a cell cycle reporter strain to monitor cell cycle progression in unperturbed conditions and I performed several omics experiments to gather data for a better understanding of meiosis progression. Afterwards, I decided to join Aleksandar Vjestica’s lab to enhance my knowledge in meiosis regulation, as well as moving into the study of protein-mRNA interaction and improve my microscopy acquisition and analysis skills.
Outside the lab, I like enjoying a good meal/beer/wine, reading fantasy and sci-fi and playing videogames. I am very excited to begin this new stage and see you around!
