Contract length: 1 year, renewable up to a maximum of 5 year depending on funding and performance

Activity rate: 100% (a minimum of 80% of the activity rate for research, a maximum of 20% of the activity rate for institutional and teaching tasks)

Workplace: University of Lausanne, Dorigny

Your responsibilities

Plant growth and development are strongly influenced by light. This resource is essential for photoautotrophic plants but its availability is strongly influenced by the surrounding vegetation. In response to neighbor proximity or shade cues plants initiate low light responses such as the shade-avoidance syndrome and phototropism. The Fankhauser lab (https://www.unil.ch/cig/en/home/menuinst/research/prof-fankhauser.html) studies the molecular and physiological mechanisms enabling plants to adapt to such unfavorable light conditions.

The successful candidate will be based at the Center for Integrative Genomics of the University of Lausanne, under the supervision of Prof. Christian Fankhauser to work on signaling mechanisms underlying the responses of plants to a changing light environment. Our major model organism is Arabidopsis thaliana. The candidate will use a combination of molecular genetics, plant photobiology, cell biology and biochemical approaches and work as part of a team to address the overall research question. Candidates with a bioinformatics background interested in combining experimental and computational approaches are also encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to gain teaching and mentoring experience through contributions to undergraduate and graduate teaching programs and the supervision of student projects. The University of Lausanne offers a world-class international research environment with state-of-the-art facilities
