Postdoctoral Scientist position available at the GEDEV, Geneva

 Full-time Postdoctoral Scientist

The Epigenetics and Development Laboratory (EpiDev) headed by Professor Rabih Murr (Publication List) within the department of Genetic Medicine and Development (GEDEV) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated candidate for a postdoctoral position. Our laboratory is interested in the role of epigenetic mechanisms, notably DNA methylation, in transcription regulation. In addition, we are exploiting the knowledge obtained from studying this fundamental question in the aim of establishing novel epigenetic approaches for cancer treatment. To address our aims, we use a multidisciplinary approach involving cancer cell and embryonic stem cell culture, high throughput genome-wide profiling, CRISPR-mediated genome editing, proteomics, computational analysis and biochemical assays. We offer excellent support and supervision, access to state-of-the-art facilities and an interactive and collaborative research environment. The successful candidate will have the possibility, among other options, to lead a project aiming at understanding the interaction between gene-distal and -proximal regulatory regions and how epigenetic mechanisms could affect this interaction.

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics or a related field.

• Strong experimental and theoretical background in Biochemistry, Epigenetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Next Generation Sequencing. Additional knowledge in genomic and epigenomic data analysis is a plus. Excellent candidates from other related fields will also be considered.

• Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals with at least one first author publication.

• Experience in leading research projects and supervising graduate/undergraduate students.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Very good oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.

Start Date : As soon as possible.

Salary: CHF 81’347 for the first year.

The University of Geneva:
Founded in 1559 by Jean Calvin, the University of Geneva (UNIGE) is dedicated to thinking, teaching, dialogue and research. With 16’000 students of more than 140 different nationalities, it is Switzerland’s second largest university and one of Europe’s leading universities. UNIGE domains of excellence in research include life sciences (molecular biology, bio-informatics), physics of elementary particles, and astrophysics. Just like the city of Geneva itself, the university enjoys a strong international reputation, both for the quality of its research (it ranks among the top institution among the League of European Research Universities) and the excellence of its education.

Application:

• Please send one PDF document including a motivation letter, CV, publication list and contact information for at least two referees to rabih.murr@unige.ch.

• Deadline for the application: September 1st 2016.
