Following the great success of the 2021 leadership courses, The EDI(Equal opportunities, diversity and integration) commission of the FBM is reorganizing leadership training courses in collaboration with HFP consulting(specialists in leadership training for scientists) for the fundamental science departments that will take place in August/September 2022 as online events.
Two courses will be offered:
1) “Leadership essentials”, tailored to junior group leaders (such as Ambizione, Prima, Cloetta, FNS/Eccellenza, FNS/ERC starting grant, PAST, PAST-PTC, or junior MER). This course is for aspiring and new leaders who want to explore key competencies and skills to lead effectively and manage a high performing team with a culture of inclusiveness.
2) ” Leadership for leaders” targeted to senior MER, PAS, or PO’s. This course challenges experienced leaders to evolve their leadership style and improve their effectiveness in leading individuals, teams, and institutes in an inclusive environment. This course is especially recommended for Professors taking further leadership positions, for example, as head of a department, school, or in large collaborative networks.
Objectives: Principal investigators are promoted to new positions which involve increasing responsibilities during their careers, but often without the tools to help them become successful and responsible team managers and institutional leaders. The EDI commission, with support from the Equal opportunity office at UNIL, aims to establish and nurture a strong culture among faculty members of team and faculty management which are both efficient and respectful of people and values. We propose a management training to implement this aim and form a network of PIs who will serve as change leaders in our faculty and beyond.
Course dates: The workshops will take place online and are divided into half days spread over 3 weeks
Course (1) Leadership essentials
Aug 30, Sep 2, 6, 9, 13, 16 (Tuesdays and Fridays)
Time slot for each session: 9:00 – 12:30
Course (2) Leadership for leaders
Aug 29, Sep 1, 5, 8, 12, 15 (Mondays and Thursdays)
Time slot for each session: 14:00-17:30
In addition, there will a kickoff session on August 29th, 12:30-13:30 that is common to both courses. We have invited Prof. Susan Gasser , a world-renowned role model scientist and equality advocate, to discuss her career path and leadership tips. A Q+A session will follow her presentation.
