The Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Medicine is pleased to inform you that the School of Biology will soon launch its 2012 Summer Undergraduate Research (SUR) programme.
The 2012 programme will host about 20-25 Bachelor (first university degree) students with backgrounds in biological and/or medical studies from around the world (including some students from Lausanne) for an 8-week summer sojourn (July 9th to August 31st 2012) at the UNIL.
For the participating students, the programme provides an unforgettable research and personal experience in science outside their home institution. For the FBM, the SUR programme offers several benefits:
– A global recognition of the UNIL
– A possibility to recruit excellent international candidates for Master’s or Doctoral degrees in the FBM
– An opportunity for collaboration between departments within the FBM, and with the EPFL through their parallel Summer Research Programme
– An incentive for medical students to do research
– Development of a cohort of scientists who retain a personal attachment to the University of Lausanne and who will share their experiences with their peers in their home institutions
Selected applicants will be integrated into the research laboratories of the departments of the FBM. The programme provides a stipend to support the living costs of the student, but research expenses of the participants are covered by the host laboratories.

Le Décanat de la Faculté de biologie et de médecine a le plaisir de vous informer que l’Ecole de biologie reconduit son programme international d’été en recherche expérimentale pour l’année 2012.
Le programme SUR accueillera environ 20 à 25 étudiants de premier cycle ayant une formation soit biologique soit médicale et provenant du monde entier (dont quelques étudiants lausannois), pour un stage de 8 semaines (du 9 juillet au 31 août 2012) à l’UNIL.
Le but de ce programme est d’offrir la possibilité à des étudiants encore en formation de vivre une expérience de vie et de recherche inoubliable hors de leur institution d’origine.
Pour la FBM, le SUR programme représente plusieurs atouts:
– une reconnaissance mondiale de la Faculté
– un moyen de recruter de bons candidats extérieurs pour faire un master ou un doctorat à la FBM
– une opportunité de collaboration entre les départements de la FBM et ainsi que l’EPFL et leur programme partenaires de recherche
– un encouragement pour des étudiants en médecine à faire de la recherche
– un développement d’une cohorte de scientifiques ayant un attachement personnel à l’Université de Lausanne et qui partageront leur expérience avec leurs pairs dans leurs différentes institutions d’origine.
Les candidats sélectionnés seront intégrés dans les laboratoires de recherche des départements intéressés. Les laboratoires d’accueil n’auront à couvrir que les frais de recherche du participant.
