– Advanced Postdoc.Mobility 

Advanced Postdoc.Mobility fellowships are designed for postdocs who wish to enhance their scientific profile by working at a research institution abroad. In addition to the fellowship, applicants can request a grant for a research period upon returning to Switzerland.

– Ambizione

Ambizione, Ambizione-PROSPER and Ambizione-SCORE grants are aimed at young researchers who wish to conduct, manage and lead an independent project at a Swiss higher education institution. The funding scheme would like to promote qualified researchers from Switzerland as well as excellent researchers from abroad.    

The grants comprise the salary and project funds for a maximum of three years.

– Doc.CH (HSS)

Doc.CH (HSS) is aimed at promising researchers who wish to write a doctoral thesis on a topic of their own choice in the humanities and social sciences in Switzerland. 

Besides the salary of the doctoral student, the grant may include a contribution towards costs directly related to project implementation.

– Projects (all disciplines)

Project funding is aimed at experienced researchers working in Switzerland who wish to obtain funding for a project of their own. The research topic can be chosen freely.

The grants cover direct costs such as salaries of collaborators, materials, travel as well as other expenses.

Innovations in project funding: clearer and more attractive as of October 2016

Aiming to optimise its main funding scheme, the SNSF commissioned a client survey on project funding and set up an internal working group. This resulted in changes aimed at implementing a more effective, client-friendly and attractive project funding scheme for researchers. The changes will take effect as of October 2016, together with the SNSF’s first dedicated regulations on project funding.

– SNSF Professorships

SNSF professorships address young researchers who intend to pursue an academic career and wish to establish their own team to realise a research project.

An SNSF professorship includes the researcher’s salary (assistant professorship level), a research grant, salaries of employees as well as a contribution to infrastructure costs. The funding period is 4 years and may be extended by no more than 2 years.

– R’Equip (Research Equipment)

R’Equip is aimed at researchers in Switzerland who need top-quality, innovative equipment for their research work. The SNSF awards grants for the acquisition and development of large-scale apparatuses in all areas of science.

A grant pays for the acquisition of equipment worth at least CHF 100,000. It generally covers up to 50% of the acquisition costs and amounts to a maximum of CHF 1 million.

– Sinergia 

The Interdisciplinary Projects scheme will be integrated into the Sinergia programme. Sinergia will be re-positioned and new regulations will be issued in time for the next submission deadline on 1 June 2016.

– Marie Heim-Vögtlin (MHV)

MHV grants are aimed at female doctoral students and postdocs in Switzerland who had to interrupt or reduce their research activities due to family commitments. Thanks to MHV grants, candidates can boost or re-start their career with a research project of their own and improve their scientific profile.The grant includes the salary of the grantee for up to two years and, in addition, it can cover a portion of the research costs as well as childcare costs. It is possible to work part-time.

– Mobility Grants in Projects

Mobility grants are aimed at researchers who wish to improve their scientific profile by going abroad while being employed in an ongoing SNSF research project.

A mobility grant can cover travel and living costs as well as fees for conferences and workshops of up to CHF 20,000. It is awarded for six to twelve months.

OTHER CALLS FOR PROPOSALS

– NRP 72 “Antimicrobial Resistance”

Mandated by the Federal Council, the SNSF has launched the National Research Programme “Antimicrobial Resistance” (NRP 72). The research programme is expected to improve our knowledge about the origin of resistance genes and their distribution mechanisms, develop swift diagnostic tools, analyse new antimicrobial molecules and propose intervention measures. It is adopting a holistic, interdisciplinary one-health approach.

– ERA_NET CHIST-ERA

The ERA-NET CHIST-ERA supports EU research collaborations in information and communication sciences and technologies. This year’s call addresses the following two topics: 1. User-Centric Security, Privacy and Trust in the Internet of Things; 2. Terahertz Band for Next-Generation Mobile Communications Systems.

– NRP 75 “Big Data”

The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is issuing a call for the National Research Programme “Big Data” (NRP 75) based on a mandate from the Federal Council.

NRP 75 will address the technical questions raised by big data (infrastructures, machine learning, security), study the societal challenges involved (social acceptance, regulatory aspects and economic impacts) and facilitate the development of new applications.

– NRP 74 “Smarter Health Care”

The Federal Council has commissioned the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) to launch a call for the National Research Programme “Smarter Health Care” (NRP 74).

The NRP 74 will promote innovative health services research aimed at tackling the practical challenges of caring for the chronically ill in Switzerland. In addition, NRP 74 aims to improve the usability of health data and create a strong community of health services researchers who are capable of conducting world-leading research in the field.
